Lesson plan for Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012

Hello everyone. I'm sorry I'm not able to be there today to get the lab started, but Amber isn't feeling well so I'm home with her. Today you will be watching one of Mr. Anderson's videos followed by an animation on the light reactions of photosynthesis (see the links below). Please take notes as you watch the video. My suggestion is to take separate notes in your normal notebook, rather than trying to fill out the guideline that I provided you.

After the videos, you may either work on your study guides or begin your take home metabolism test. The test is due the Tuesday that we return from break. Have a good day.

Link to Metabolism Unit Materials & Lab Tutorial

Hopefully this is only temporary, but here's a link to the files from the current unit. If this is not a temporary thing, I'll add the next unit over break.

Click here to access dropbox.com shared folder for the metabolism unit

Also, I forgot to assign something in class Friday. If you get a chance, click the link on the left of the blog for "AP biology practice labs", click Lab 5: Cell Respiration, and then complete the tutorial. This will help get you better prepared for Monday's lab.
Enjoy your weekend.

Assignments for Monday and Tuesday Dec. 10 & 11

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Before I get to the assignments, I have a few housekeeping things to share with you:
  1. The learn site is down and the tech dept is unsure when it will be back up.
  2. I have graded about half of the projects, but will need some more time to finish it up. I will continue working on it tonight, but I probably won't be putting grades in until Monday evening, at the earliest.
  3. The cell membrane grades and extra credit reading guides will be delayed as well. I apologize.
Here's what you should be working on over the next two days:
  1. Click here to access the enzyme webquest. I have not made any copies of this. You are welcome to download your own copy from here and fill it in as you go on your computer (don't worry about formatting). Otherwise please click the link, download as a pdf, and then print it off. YOU MAY WORK WITH A PARTNER ON THIS, BUT YOU EACH NEED YOUR OWN DOCUMENT. This assignment is due by the end of the block Tuesday.
  2. Work on your osmosis/diffusion lab notebook completion. You do NOT need to have an introduction, but you should have every other component in your notebook. Every individual is responsible for having their notebook done, but you will only turn in one for the group. This assignment is due by the end of the block Tuesday and should be turned in at that time.
  3. Work on your ch. 8-10 study guides. No due date is set on these yet.
  4. TUESDAY ONLY - You are welcome to play Cell Craft. Click here to get to the game
  5. Anything else Coach M says :)
I look forward to seeing you all on Wed. You should watch Mr. Anderson's intro to photosynthesis and cell respiration prior to Wednesday's class. Click here to get to the video.

Introduction to Metabolism - Assignment for Thursday

Its time to start talking about energy usage within the cells, thus we are beginning our metabolism unit that will focus on cell respiration and photosynthesis. I've started putting together a playlist on the Youtube channel for this unit so when you get a chance, please check out the videos. This unit will include chapters 8-10.

Things to do before Thursday's class:
1. Preview/read chapter 8 (have the chapter read prior to Friday's class)
2. Watch the video posted at the end of this entry.

Things to do before Friday's class:
1. Finish revisions to the cell membrane drawings (they are due this day)
2. Finish reading chapter 8
3. Reading guides for the cell unit are due (ch. 6 & 7) if you did these.

Other items:
1. The osmosis/diffusion lab will be due on Tuesday. As a group you will select a lab notebook to submit to be checked. However, all members are to complete all portions of the lab in their notebooks.
2. Read chapters 8-10 within the next week.

Good luck.
