Chemistry Review for AP Biology

Just a reminder that we will not be spending a great deal of time on chapter 2 in class.  We will do a brief review in class on Friday, but you will want to make sure you look this over on your own prior to Monday's class.

You will find several resources available in the unit 3 - biochemistry folder on our sharesite and you can check out the prezi below that will give you a chemistry review, as well as a preview of the water and carbon chemistry that we will be discussing on Monday.

Evolution unit is over; time for biochemistry

I hope to get the tests scored by the end of the day on Thursday, and the free response items scored by Monday.

Tomorrow we will take our last sampling of plants for NPP and harvest the seeds. You should be thinking about what treatment you want to apply to your plants for the inquiry portion of the lab. You will be planting your seeds and beginning this on Monday.

In order to prepare for the lessons for the remainder of the week, please watch the videos below. We will discuss chemistry on Thursday and hopefully get to properties of water on Friday.

TEST WED & Weekly Blog Entry

First of all, the evolution test will be this Wednesday. Please look through all of your notes, check out the evolution play list on on the mrlandryshs Youtube channel (see link to the left), and look for AP biology vocab sets on www.quizlet.com Additionally, there is a plethora of information on the share site, including the what to know summaries and a necessary vocabulary list (maybe make your own quizlet cards). All work from this unit will be due on Wednesday, including all of your study and reading guides, as well as the HW lab that I have not yet collected. We will do some review activities on Tuesday and get the clickers out to see where we are at with this topic.

Secondly, this weeks blog entry is a free write or you can develop an evolution quizlet set and embed it into your blog (or post the link). If completing the free write, all I ask is that your entry have a biology basis to it. Maybe you write about your class experiences thus far, or a current news topic, or even share a tidbit of biology knowledge that you have that most are not aware of.

FYI - the pacing thus far has not been slightly slow these first two units, but that is because it has all been new material for most of you. The pace will be picking up starting on Thursday as we will begin looking at biological molecules within the body (biochemistry). For those of you looking to get ahead, we will be looking at chapters 2-5 for the next unit.

Good luck!

Homework for Thursday

You should be in the process of reading chapters 23-26. In addition, please complete the following prior to Thursday's class:

1. Add an RSS feed to your blog. This will make it easier for me to keep track of your blogs. I'll show you how to do this in class on Wednesday. Go to the layout option for your blog, select add a gadget somewhere on your blog, and choose the gadget "Subscribe To".

2. Watch the following videos from Mr. Anderson in Bozeman, MT

Week Six Blog Posting - Current Events in Science

This week I would like to ask you to find an article about a recent development in the field of biology and write a summary of the findings. I've included several links that I use below.

Additionally, don't forget to complete you entry from last week about Homecoming at Sparta High School.

Homecoming Week Entry & New YouTube Playlist

Biology business first - I've put together a playlist of evolution videos on my YouTube Channel. Some will be assigned as homework, some shown in class, but either way they are great study tools. Check them out: http://www.youtube.com/user/MrLandrySHS Additionally you should be completing your reading that go with the evolution unit over the next week (Chapters 22.2, 22.3, and 23-26 (all))

Blog entry this week is a more fun one :) Since this is homecoming week here at SHS and we do the best homecoming in the world, I'd like you to reflect on your homecoming experiences over the past several years (including this year). Remember you are writing to a worldwide audience so show your readers that SHS homecoming has no equal. I suggest you start by giving a brief summary of how homecoming works here at SHS, then share your experiences with it. This is an open reflection entry so you can take this in whatever direction you wish. Have fun with it :)
