Cell Transport Video

Once again congrats to everyone on their great work on the cell war project. Please be patient with me in the grading process as its going to take awhile for me to filter through everything. I suggest you tweet about your success in the voting process, regardless of place. You may want to start your campaign for next year too :)

Well, no luck on getting the video I recorded to work right. I guess we will have to spend a little more time in class discussing it. Oh well. In the meantime, please check out the video from Mr. Anderson:

Assignments to be completed prior to 11-26-12

Hello everyone. First of all, I'd like to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you take the time to enjoy all of the great fellowship, food, and football (OK Lions fans, it may not fit under great) associated with the holiday.

Secondly, I know its a break but we can't take our foot completely off the gas so you do have several activities to complete prior to Monday's class:

1. Make sure your campaign videos and posters are digitized and posted to you blog. Also send out multiple tweets trying to get people to view your videos and posters. Also, be prepared for your poster presentations on Monday.

2. Read chapters 6 & 7. You should have already gone through chapter 6. You can still earn the extra credit for completing the reading guides.

3. Watch and take notes on the following video:

Activity to complete by no later than Tuesday, 11-20-12

I've read through all of your KWLs and unfortunately they weren't thorough enough for me to get a good understanding of where we need additional support. We will do a brief walkthrough of the cell on Monday in class, but there's a great resource out there that I think many of you would find helpful. Go to www.cellsalive.com and explore the site as it is quite thorough. You may want to pay particular attention to the cell models section as it has each of your cell organelles listed/labeled as well as it explains the role of each organelle. Spend at least 15 minutes navigating the site prior to Tuesday's class.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and keep up the good work with #shscellwar. Listen to the announcements Monday and Tuesday as well :)

Lesson Plan for Monday November 12, 2012

Hello everyone. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Hard to believe that it is the last full week before Thanksgiving already.

Here's the drill for today:
1. Reminders:
  • Test on Chapters 2-5 is Wednesday. We will review Tuesday. All assignments are due on this date. Everyone will be doing both the multiple choice and free response portions of the test on Wednesday and both portions of the test WILL BE TIMED. Its "time" to get acquainted with the stress of being timed. We most likely will spill into reading time on test day.
  • Blog entry for this week is already posted so please complete this soon.
  • Next unit is cells so begin previewing chapters 6 & 7. Shorter unit :)
2. When finished with today's video, you may use the remainder of the time to prep for Wednesday's test and/or work on your study guides. There are numerous people who have not picked up the carb, lipid, or protein study guides yet. Extras are available in the extras bin. There is NOT a nucleic acid study guide required for this unit.

I've finally put together a play list for class. Here's two of the links that we will use for our opener on Wednesday:

Weeks 9 Blog Entry & Updates

Here's the topic for this round of blog entries. I'd like for you to post about which of the four macromolecules you would rather be - a lipid, carbohydrate, nucleic acid, or a protein. Begin by declaring which macromolecule you would rather be and give some background information about the macromolecule (how it forms, role it plays within the organism, etc.). Then explain why you would prefer to be that macromolecule. Also include appropriate pictures that go with your topic.

In regards to updates, here it is:
  • All grades are finally completed, updated, and in Power School.
  • The last day to turn in your animal behavior lab revision is Nov. 12. Whatever your grade is on this date becomes your permanent grade for the lab.
  • The biochemistry unit test will be WED, NOV. 14.
